Living in Orchard feels a bit like striking the neighbourhood lottery. In fact, it probably also feels like you’ve struck the actual lottery in order to afford living here. Whether you’re looking for a home or an investment property, Orchard is undoubtedly one of the best neighbourhoods in Singapore, and Ardmore Park happens to be right in the middle of it all, but still elegantly hidden away from the main action on a leafy avenue.
While some may say that life in Orchard lacks the vibes and atmosphere of heartland estates, it certainly doesn’t mean that it’s anything less local. After all, rich or humble, the entire population of Singapore seems to descend upon Orchard Road every weekend, so by no means will you feel cut off from the local crowd.
Love it or hate it, Orchard is the shopping mecca of Singapore. Whether you’re a true blue shopaholic with cash to burn or a window shopper, you’d be hard pressed to find any other neighbourhood that fulfills your consumerist fantasies. Whether it’s Hermes, H&M, or hipster labels you’ve never heard of, you can find them all in Orchard. Ardmore Three is the only development along Ardmore Park that has a side gate to access Orchard Road directly.
It’s not just fashion and trends that make Orchard so alluring for the shopper, but also the range of gourmet foods that are easily available. Specialty grocers and delis are everywhere in Orchard for the globetrotting expat crowd that needs their artisanal baguettes as much as locals need their kaya toasts.
Ardmore Park is situated close the main roads of Orchard Road, Scotts Road and the CTE expressway, making it incredibly easy to get around within the downtown core of Singapore, as well as to get away. If battling with traffic isn’t your cup of tea, the Orchard MRT station is just a 15-minute walk away. From Orchard MRT, you can navigate the entire island with easy access to all the other MRT lines, including the relatively new Downtown line.
For families with children, proximity to good schools can be an important factor. Ardmore Park is close to prestigious local and international schools, including Raffles Girls School, Anglo-Chinese Primary, Etonhouse, and Chatsworth International.
As with most places in Singapore, it’s safe for children to commute to school on their own and having great schools in the neighbourhood just makes it that much easier.
Dining and Nightlife
Orchard isn’t just a great place to shop; it’s also incredibly close to the best spots for dining and nightlife in Singapore, including some places in its own backyard. Whether you’re up for a greasy midnight supper at a local joint or wine and dine at some of the best restaurants in Singapore, you’d find it all in Orchard.
One of the best places to get away from it all with dinner and drinks is Dempsey Hill, a pretty enclave just 10 minutes away by car. For live music and a lovely casual ambience, Emerald Hill is just a short drive away.
Beautiful Parks and Gardens
Living in the city can make anyone desperate for greenery and open space. What makes Orchard a great place to live in is that beautiful parks and gardens are within easy reach. And if you live in Ardmore, you have the grand dame of them all, the Singapore Botanic Gardens just a stroll away. Take a walk in the evenings and bring along your picnic basket and bottle of Moscato for the weekends.
Another beautiful and historical park is the Fort Canning Park, which also happens to have great restaurants and is a regular host of concerts, theatre and dance productions.
